Reason for joining MSI:
Our achievement is not only about just oneself, but also the influence one has made on others. I’m here not only for the love of the ocean and diving, but also to call for the protection of the ocean environment.
Describe yourself:
I’m Christina Zhang from China, a senior majoring in English education. With a passion for both ocean exploration and sports, I strive to bridge the gap between marine conservation and public engagement through my diverse experiences and platforms.
My academic journey has been fueled by a love for languages and cross-cultural communication. I consistently ranked in the top 5% of my class and received the National English Speech Contest Award.
Beyond academics, I have leveraged on my expertise as an Advanced Open Water Diver to conduct underwater surveys and marine life monitoring projects. My role as a Sports Blogger on social media allows me to share my adventures while raising awareness about ocean pollution and over fishing. In 2024, I won the Miss Scuba International title and became the first runner up of Miss Universe China, and I used these platforms to urge governments to protect 30% of the world’s oceans.
Diving has transformed my life. I’ve explored coral reefs in Malaysia and documented the impact of plastic waste on marine ecosystems. I saw many turtles and a myriad of fish, very different from when I did my first dive in China, where I could only see discarded plastics, cans and garbage.
Ever since I became a beauty queen, I realized that beauty is not only from the outside, but also from the inside. What I can do is to promote marine conservation, to be a role model and appeal the public to join me in marine conservation.
My goal is to create more marine conservation awareness by collaborating with organizations.
By competing in Miss Scuba International 2024, I believe that passion, perseverance, and a connection to the ocean can drive meaningful change. I am eager to use my bilingual skills, media influence, and underwater expertise to inspire a global movement for our precious oceans.
